Fabric Forward: Reimagining Textile Waste
Fashion Revolution New Zealand is excited to bring the Fashion Revolution to Queen Street, Auckland in the form of an exhibition this year. Fashion Revolution New Zealand is part of Fashion Revolution, now the world’s largest fashion activism movement. It is now 10 years since Fashion Revolution was founded and our annual global campaign, Fashion Revolution Week (15-24 April 2024), will celebrate this anniversary through sharing learnings from around the globe and exploring the theme “How to be a Fashion Revolutionary”.
In collaboration with ImpacTex, SCG, Good magazine, Elta Ego, Joiy, and Wildly, Fashion Revolution New Zealand presents Fabric Forward: Reimagining Textile Waste. The exhibition will showcase innovative approaches to sustainability in the fashion industry. By bringing together artists, fashion designers, and industry, we seek to highlight the creative and practical ways in which textile waste can be repurposed and reimagined.
Through this collaborative effort, we hope to inspire a new perspective on fashion production and consumption, encouraging a more sustainable and ethical approach to the way we create and interact with clothing.
What will be on display?
- Artists - We will be displaying artworks by several textile artists. These will showcase a mixture of styles and materials and include both hanging and standing pieces.
- Fashion Designers - We will display garments made by the finalists of the Mindful Fashion NZ Circular Design Awards.
- Industry - Signage and artwork made from Retex, a new textile recycling innovation from ImpacTex.
The exhibition will take place during Fashion Revolution Week from 15th - 24th April 2024 at the Strand Arcade (Queen Street, Auckland). The exhibition is part of the " Good News For You" initiative by Auckland Council, a presentation of artworks within the historic setting of the Strand Arcade.
Tickets are free. Reserve your ticket via Humanitix and use it during any open time slot. Opening hours vary depending on the day. Walk-ins welcome. The exhibition will be open for entry from Monday 15 April to Wednesday 24 April, including some evenings - please check this site for updated hours. Outside these hours, the exhibition will still be visible from within Strand Arcade.
An evening to celebrate will be held on Thursday 18 April 6-8pm with guest speakers and food and drink provided (limited tickets are available for this).
