Artists in our Community,

Toni Armstrong and Cathy Ward are outstanding portrait artists, based here in Rotorua. Both have received national recognition and both have been selected as finalists in the Rotorua Museum Art Awards.

Come hear them talk about what it takes to make an outstanding portrait!

What does it mean to truly capture a person on canvas? Join acclaimed local artists Cathy Ward and Toni Armstrong for an intimate conversation exploring the captivating world of modern portraiture.

While both artists share a deep fascination with the human face, their paths to capturing it couldn't be more distinct. Toni Armstrong brings a finely observed, masterfully detailed approach to her oil portraits, inviting viewers into moments of quiet realism. In contrast, Cathy Ward weaves expressive head studies with rich narrative elements, often blending human emotion with the beauty of the natural world.

Together, they will take you behind the easel to discuss their creative processes, the relationship between artist and subject, and how they bridge the gap between mere likeness and true emotional presence. Whether you are an art lover, an aspiring painter, or simply curious about the stories behind the faces, this dual artist talk offers a fascinating look at the diverse languages of paint.

Don't miss this inspiring afternoon of art and dialogue.
