Facilitating and creating positive first point of contact experiences (Logan)

Participants will explore what it means to provide a safe and welcoming experience to the people who access sexual assault, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic violence services.   

We will identify what successful interactions look, feel and sound like – building on the human connection aspect whilst simultaneously meeting the organisational requirements of access to the service. We will gain further insights into what this means from a service user perspective and the role first point of contact workers can play in creating this positive environment.   

We will also gain insights into the personal strengths and resources that shape the responses that we bring to our work. This will enable us to enhance our skills to manage potentially challenging interactions, to care for ourselves and to manage the essential organisational requirements of service access.  

This will be an interactive workshop. Participants will engage in both individual and group activities to gain practical understanding of the concepts explored and to learn from each other.

Learning Objectives:

• Understanding of the critical cues of safety to communicate effectively with others and connect with curiosity and compassion.
• Insights into what it means to provide a positive environment and a safe and welcoming first response for service users. 
• Understanding of how to facilitate successful interactions from the service user perspective while meeting organisational access requirements. 
• Insights to support enhanced good practice through sharing what is working well and learning from others doing similar work.
