More about the speakers

Jeffrey Meyers

This short talk will introduce colleagues to how Jeffrey Meyers revised assessment in his online async teaching to better know, and relate to, students as individualized learners. It will explore how to sharply reduce academic integrity issues by incentivizing meaningful office hours attendance twice per term as a means of scaffolding midterm and final oral assessment. The talk will consider how self-assessment using a shared marking rubric, along with question choice, and detailed explanation of what to expect in oral assessment can work to reduce student anxiety, enhance learning and build concrete communication and interpersonal skills.

Johanna Schuetz
This short talk will focus on changes Johanna implemented to first year take-home assessments in order to reduce academic integrity breaches. This required going back to the assignments' objectives and increasing scaffolding for student confidence and success.

Semone Ferrari

In this short talk, Semone Ferrari will share how she incorporates AI as a tool rather than prohibiting it, designing assignments that require students to apply course concepts, exercise professional judgment, and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs. By shifting the emphasis from the final product to the process of inquiry, analysis, critique, and reflection, these assessments help students demonstrate authentic learning while developing the critical thinking, digital literacy, and evaluative skills increasingly expected by employers. In this way, students not only engage more deeply with the course material but also gain practical experience using AI responsibly and effectively in ways that reflect its growing role in modern workplaces.

This session is being held as part of Academic Integrity Month
