Falling Together: Four-day Contact Improvisation Residential
Description
Falling Together is a four‑day Contact Improvisation residential at Roelands Village, Western Australia. The gathering prioritises depth of practice, mutual care, and relational intelligence, drawing on CI lineages, contemporary practice, and community‑led learning.
Gathering over the winter solstice, we move at the point where balance tips—listening through weight, touch, and momentum. This weekend aligns with the Global Underscore, joining a wider field of dancers practicing together across time zones, while staying grounded on Wardandi Noongar boodja.
Through workshops, jams, and informal exchanges, we’ll explore falling, yielding, rolling, and meeting. How we give and receive weight, how we arrive in relation, how we move with what is already in motion.
This is a space for curiosity, attunement, and rest as much as intensity. A chance to deepen practice, connect with others, and spend time inside the unfolding of the dance.
Where: Roelands Village
Falling Together is being held at Roelands Village, 2 hours drive south of Perth, Western Australia. Accommodation is dorm-style, with single and bunk beds, and shared bathrooms. Sheets and towels are provided. For dancing, there is a large indoor hall (130SQM) where up to 40 dancers can share the space, as well as several smaller spaces (each approx. 40SQM) comprised of a mix of indoor areas and covered verandah spaces suited to small groups of up to 20 dancers. As well as these dance-friendly sheltered spaces, Roelands has a range of beautiful outdoor areas, surrounded by rolling green hills and open sky (though very few flat areas).
When: 18–22 June 2026.
The event will begin with check in from 3pm Thursday 18th, through to breakfast and goodbyes at 10am on Monday 22nd June. Workshops and activities will be held from 6pm-10pm Thursday, and 7am-10pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as the global underscore on Saturday 20th, 10pm-2am.

Who:
This weekend residential is for anyone with a love for contact improvisation, dance, or adjacent areas of movement and somatic practice. We welcome movers with experience in contact improvisation, as well as those newer to the form who are comfortable working with touch. We welcome a range of bodies, backgrounds, and approaches to movement practice. If you are interested in facilitating a session, please complete an EOI, or contact the organisers.
Access & Families:
We are committed to creating a space that is attentive, respectful, and responsive. This event is being subsidised by the Contact Improvisation Perth jam. To make this event affordable and accessible for the community, tickets have been reduced below cost price, and this event is being organised by volunteers.
Parents are encouraged to attend, with dorm accomodation or camping options available for families. Families are welcome, however this is not a family-focused event, and children will be the responsibility of parents/carers at all times. Though there will be certain times when they are welcome and invited to join in with the programmed activities, they will need to be kept safe and supervised by an adult at all times throughout the weekend. To respect the focus of the weekend the dance spaces will be child-free the rest of the time. Families are welcome to use the non dance spaces throughout the weekend, including indoor lounge/living areas and kitchens, grassed outdoor spaces, a basketball court, and a small vegetable garden. Families are welcome to prepare their own meals using the kitchen in their cottage, or to join in the communal meals provided.
We aim to make this an accessible and inclusive event. If you have any questions, please message the Contact Improvisation Perth team, or contact Clare (+61 499 829 869 / mothershipmcs@gmail.com or Jacqui (+61 408 400 467 / jaotago@gmail.com). About the venue:
Roelands Village is located at 575 Seven Hills Rd, Roelands WA 6226. The venue is 2 hours south of Perth near Bunbury, on Wardandi Noongar country in Western Australia. Roelands was originally a farm, and was used as a Mission by the Churches of Christ to house children removed from families from across Western Australia. At times the Mission had more than 100 Aboriginal children living there from all over Western Australia. It is now owned and operated by Woolkabunning Kiaka Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal incorporated organisation with charitable status. We are honoured to have the opportunity to hold our event at this historic site surrounded by the stunning natural environment, to share in the story of Roelands, and to learn from their connection to country.
More information about Roelands can be found here.
