Sunday 16 February 2025

Time:

4:30pm - 6pm

Venue:

Starting from Fern Tree Tavern

Enter the Tasmanian cool temperate rainforest with forest ecologist and expert guide Yoav Daniel Bar-Ness for a walk along some of Kunanyi/ Mount Wellington’s splendid tracks. Participants will learn about fern biodiversity, mushroom spotting, wood decay, and the geology of Kunanyi/ Mount Wellington. We’ll also try out some citizen science tools to record our observations of local biodiversity.

We’ll meet outside the Fern Tree Tavern, easily accessible from town by a short bus or car ride, and then enjoy one-hour walk. The trails are fairly easy and suitable for most fitness levels. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and warm layers. You might also want to bring water and a snack.

A Seat at the Table
Beaker Street's pay-it-forward initiative, A Seat at the Table, helps make our science and art offerings accessible to those who can't afford to purchase a ticket. Ticket buyers have the option to donate towards the cost of a stranger's ticket. You won't know who you've helped, but your donation will go directly to allowing someone else to access this great event. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Need a seat at the table? Just fill out this quick form to request one or two tickets to any event. Your information will never be shared or made public. If we can offer you a seat, we'll notify you by email a week or two out from the event.

More about Beaker Street

At Beaker Street, we invite people from all walks of life to peer through the lens of science. Here, impossible problems invite ingenious solutions, and uncertainty is a reason to come together — not to take sides.

Together — through eye-opening conversations, mind-expanding experiences, and maybe even a cold beer — we can uncover our shared reality.

Common ground can be found in the most unexpected of places. See you at Beaker Street, where science brings us together.
