Thank you for registering for the Family Mushroom Foray on Saturday, October 10th!

Your foray time is 9:00am-12:00pm.

Tickets are fully refundable up to one week before the event and are able to be transferred to another person's name up to the day before.

Important Information & Packing List:

Hello Fellow Foragers!

Please read the entirety of this letter, there is important information about our day, directions to our meet location and a list of required items to bring that will help us be more prepared for our time in the forest.

We will meet on Saturday, October 10th at 9:00am in Trout Lake, Washington at the Mt. Adams District Ranger Station.

Location Address: Mt. Adams Ranger Station, 2455 WA-141, Trout Lake, WA 98650

PLEASE CHECK YOUR DRIVE TIME BEFORE THE DAY OF TO ENSURE YOU ARRIVE ON TIME. Folks arriving more than 15 minutes late are at risk of missing our carpool/caravan to our foray location, because of minimal cell service it is unlikely we will be able to connect, so please be on time.

PARKING: As you pull in, we will gather to the left of the Ranger Station (as you’re facing it), once everyone has signed a waiver and we’ve done our welcome, we will carpool/caravan to our forested foray location.

CELL SERVICE: There is minimal cell service in Trout Lake and the 20 miles traveling towards it. Once we are at our foray location, cell service will likely be minimal to zero.

To prepare for our foray:

We should count on there being rain, it is the Pacific Northwest after all!

Gloves are highly encouraged as the overnight temps can be low this time of year. Hats, warm coats, rain gear, warm/waterproof footwear are recommended. Be prepared to walk off trail, often through wet brush for much of our time in the woods.

Packing List:

A Daypack with...

Water Bottle

Snacks

Any Medications you may need (allergy related, epi-pen, inhaler etc…)

Knife, a small pocket knife will do

Basket or Breathable Bag to collect mushrooms in, please avoid plastic and paper bags.

Safety Whistle (for everyone in your party)

Small brush (paintbrush or toothbrush, this is optional, but really helps clean up mushrooms well)

Absolutely REQUIRED:

Printed Permit: A US Forest Service mushroom harvesting permit, the link and instructions below will show you have to obtain a FREE printable mushroom harvesting permit.

Link: https://epermits.fs2c.usda.gov/forests/0603/products/mushroom-free-use

Enter Personal Information Print and BRING permit with you, Forest rangers check permits regularly.

You can print this anytime before the trip, it does not have to be printed the day-of to be viable, it is good until the end of the calendar year.

What to Wear…

Avoid Cotton: on rainy days, cotton only keeps you cold and damp.

Hat, Gloves, Warm Socks

Sturdy Footwear: We will often be off trail

Rain Gear: Jackets and pants if you have them

Layer up, you can always layer down if you get too warm

Pack extra dry socks and clothes in your car to change into after the foray, especially if you have a long drive home.

Optional Prerequisite:

Watch the first of my Mushrooms 101 videos in preparation for the foray. You will get to spend significantly more time looking for mushrooms if everyone has this preliminary knowledge.

Mushrooms 101: https://youtu.be/5sylVme-EfA?si=eJgn2-Vzj1LPMPjv

We will come across all sorts of interesting mushrooms, the overall purpose of the trip is to experience the world of fungi in a new way and hopefully send you home with some edible treasures. I’m excited to help you discover something you’ve never seen before!

Looking forward to spending a day out with you all,

Cheers,

Marcus & Rachel Zoller "Yellow Elanor"
