Event description
When sexualised play & behaviour presents between children in families/whānau it can create distress, fear, anger and concern. Responding effectively to sexualised behaviour requires a safe, calm adult response to support all involved. In this training we will learn about the importance of not overreacting, or minimising sexualised behaviour, and how to keep holding tamariki well-being and their safety at the center when responding.
This training will look at:
- Acknowledging values and differing perspectives
- Language and terminology
- What is developmentally age expected sexualised behaviour?
- When does sexualised behaviour become concerning?
- Considering and understanding the context.
- Intent behind why children may initiate sexualised behaviour
- Sexualised behaviour through a child’s lens
The Stop Services offers assessment, intervention, phone consultation and training to strengthen the kaupapa of addressing concerning and harmful sexual behaviour in our communities.
