Thu, 17 Sep, 9:30am - Fri, 18 Sep, 4:30pm ACST

Description

You were trained to help one person. The problem is in the room.

The child who's fine at school and falling apart the moment they get home.

The parent who won't engage.

The file that never moves.

You've been patient, thorough and kind, and nothing shifts. Here's what nobody told us in training: you're not failing that family. You're working with one person in a system that has other ideas.

Most of us were taught to treat the individual in front of us. But the difficulty usually isn't inside that person, it sits between people. When you feel confident to do something to do about it, those families stop being the ones you dread.

That's what these two days are for.

What you'll be able to do on Monday

  • Read a family system and know where to intervene

  • Draw a genogram with a family in the room  as a live clinical tool, not a homework sheet

  • Use circular questions to shift a conversation that's stuck

  • Work out what to do when the person in front of you isn't the person who needs to change

  • Hold a session with several people in it without losing control of it

  • Talk to a family about their patterns without anyone feeling blamed

  • Notice when your own history is shaping what you're seeing

Who this is for

Counsellors, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists.

School wellbeing leaders, student counsellors and senior teachers.

Child protection, CAMHS and community-sector practitioners.

Anyone who works with a young person and keeps running into the family around them.

You don't need prior family therapy training.

What past attendees said

"Fantastic speakers, engaging and willing to share their knowledge creatively."

Bringing your team?

Book three or more and save 10%.

Most of what actually changes practice happens after the training in the conversations between colleagues who were both in the room. Teams get more out of this than individuals do.

FAQS:

I'm not a therapist. Is this still for me?
Yes. Around half of every cohort comes from child protection, schools, community services and allied health. If you work with young people and keep running into the family around them, this is built for you.

Do I need prior family therapy experience?
No. It's a foundation course. You do need real cases to think about, so please bring one.

Will I get a CPD certificate?
Yes, 12 hours, usable for both PACFA and ACA supervision hours. Certificates are issued at the end of day two.

Can my employer be invoiced?
Yes. Utilise the Humanitix 'invoice' ticketing option, or email hello@akindaco.com and we'll raise one.

Is it in person?
Yes, both days, in North Adelaide. Systemic practice is relational and is most immersive in person.

What if I can't make it?
Full refund up to 7 days before. After that, you're welcome to send a colleague in your place.
