Family Violence Awareness-A Cultural Perspective
Description
This training explores family and domestic violence (FDV) through a culturally informed lens.
Hosted by the Aboriginal Legal Servies, we will be examining how culture influences the understanding and experience of FDV, and highlights the various forms of violence women may face. The session explains coercive control and the six stages of intimate partner violence, helping participants recognize patterns of abuse. It also covers the Duluth Power and Control Wheel, a widely used model for understanding abusive behaviours, and presents a Culturally Adapted Violence Prevention Framework. The training concludes with practical guidance on applying a cultural perspective to support, prevention, and intervention efforts within diverse communities.
