Event description
Youth Orchestra Waikato presented by Orchestras Central
Conductors: Simon Brew, Catherine Polglase
This concert takes inspiration from iconic classical works that have become integral to popular culture, film, and even the often-unavoidable TV advert!
From Ravel’s Boléro to the overture of The Barber of Seville, the repertoire offers a journey through well-known tunes that have long accompanied onscreen drama.
We’ll also delve into music from film, featuring the quirky compositions of Henry Mancini (think The Pink Panther), as well as popular party pieces from some of the greatest operas, with guest soloists Edward Smith and Emma Jones from Waikato University’s School of Music.
Powerful, emotional, and uplifting, this beloved concert staple from Orchestras Central is the perfect way to wrap up your weekend.
