Farm tour: Tin Shed Farm

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Join us for a family-friendly morning out at Tin Shed's beautiful regenerative egg, poultry and beef farm in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland! Caron and Carl will give us a tour of the beautiful property and the incredible work they've done to improve the formerly neglected land since they took over in 2019, followed by a picnic on the hill overlooking their dam, pastures and the creekline.

The day includes:

  • meeting your farmers and getting to know how they - as a naturopath and former pilot from South Africa - found themselves farming in Queensland and the blood, sweat and good times since.
  • a behind-the-scenes look into how they produce the lovely pastured eggs you buy, as well as their pastured chicken and beef, and how it all fits together
  • a stunning setting for a picnic lunch in the fresh air (seriously, just check the photos below). Caron and Carl will be providing a light lunch of roast chicken and salad from their farm, but BYO is encouraged - particularly if you're vegetarian/vegan or have little ones!
  • option to purchase eggs and/or spatchcocks direct from your farmer, ready to take home
  • a relaxed, fun opportunity to catch up with our team and your fellow foodies in the Food Connect community.

Important notes:

  • TRANSPORT: There is no arranged transport for this tour - we'll be meeting at Tin Shed Farm at 9am. Google Maps will say it's about a 90min drive from Brisbane CBD, but we recommend allowing extra time for weekend traffic and navigating a few gravel roads. We'll provide directions closer to the day
  • TICKET PRICE & ACCESSIBILITY: We charge a small fee for farm tour tickets to cover admin costs and compensate our farmers for their time - not just in hosting us, but the preparation that goes into it. However, we know it's been a rough couple of months for many, so if you'd like to come but will have difficulty covering the cost please don't hesitate to reach out on events@foodconnectfoundation.org.au and we can make other arrangements.
  • CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: We'll be keeping a close eye on the weather situation, and will refund tickets if flood or extreme rainfall requires the tour to be cancelled. If something else comes up and you'd like to cancel your ticket, you can contact us up to 72 hours before the event for a full refund.
