FARM BUSINESS RESILIENCE WORKSHOP SERIES

Are you looking to increase your farming skills and help build resilience in your property?

This workshop series will help you develop an individualised action plan to make your farm business safe, productive and sustainable.

Each workshop will be guided by industry specialists helping you understand your farm's strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats. These workshops will help you set strategies and goals for successful farm business planning.

Participate in AT LEAST 4 of the 5 workshops (feed budgeting OR water security workshop optional) and receive a free one on one session with a farm business consultant at your property!

WORKSHOPS INCLUDE:

1. FEED & YOUR FARM with LISA WARN ~ Friday, 19th April ~ 9:30am-1pm, Kergunyah Hall.

Knowing how much feed you have for your stock is a vital part of a successful & sustainable farm enterprise. Get out in the paddock with industry expert Lisa Warn to:

Understand livestock feed demands & pasture targets for over the year
Assess pastures for feed quantity & quality
Learn how to calculate your pasture growth rates & plan your grazing accordingly
Construct feed budgets
Apply tools to calculate supplementary feed requirements.
Learn about options to manage seasonal variation in feed supply

2. WATER SECURITY with KERRIE GOSCHNICK ~ Tuesday, 14th May ~ 9:30am-1pm, Kergunyah Hall.

How much water do you have, how much do you need and how long will it last? Join Agriculture Victoria's farm water expert Kerrie Goschnick for this not to be missed workshop. You will learn all about:

Water quality and infrastructure
Water and stock productivity
Calculating how much water you have, how much you need & how long what you have will last
Managing your farm dam

3.ANIMAL HEALTH PLANS with Greg Ferrier ~ Friday, 14th June ~ 9:30am-2pm, Osbornes Flat Hall.

An animal health plan is an important tool for landholders to minimise biosecurity risks and increase animal performance.

This is an interactive workshop with a local vet and AgVic animal health expert where you will:

Identify animal health issues, such as diseases and parasites & learn about prevention and treatment solutions.
Learn about timing for joining, weaning, and marking/tagging for animal health, performance and fertility
Create an animal health plan for your herd.
Find out how your animal health plan is part of your biosecurity plan
Learn about what records you need to keep and the systems you can use to comply with regulations and the Livestock Production Assurance program.

4. SAFE CATTLE HANDLING ~Friday, 26th July~ 9:30am-2:30pm
Join us in the cattle yards with stock handling expert Byron O'Keefe to learn about:

Low stress stock handling techniques
Stock behaviour
Stock yard safety
Stock yard infrastructure

5. FARM FINANCE with Chris Mirams ~ Friday, 23rd August, 9:30am-1pm (venue to be confirmed)

Do you have the right business plan? Do you have the correct insurance? What can you claim/not claim on tax?

All of these questions and more will be answered in this workshop with farm finance expert Chris Mirams to help you understand farm insurance and your tax obligations

~ Morning tea and lunch provided at each event

~Physical Fitness level required: EASY ( Walking/standing for a period of 2 hours or more required)

~Biosecurity: There will be a biosecurity foot-wash when we go on site. We ask all attendees to please make sure their footwear and vehicles are free from any weed seeds and pathogens before entering the property.

WHAT TO BRING:

~Wear sturdy, enclosed shoes and weather appropriate clothing, sun protection, and a raincoat or umbrella in case of showers

~ Water bottle, notepad and pen

~If you are unwell on the day please remain at home in consideration of the health of others

Due to our limited funding it is difficult to cater for every dietary requirement at our events. If you have dietary requirements other than vegetarian please bring your own food and drink.
