Beginner Fan Dance introduces you to the elegant art of dancing with ostrich feather fans.

In this four-week course, you will learn the fundamentals of fan dance technique including holds or grips, classic poses, transition moves and grip changes, fan conceal and reveal, and fan tricks. Each week will build on the skills of the previous week including applying what we’ve learned and putting it into a fun fan dance routine.

You are welcome to bring your own fans, however ostrich feather fans and large paper peony dance fans will be available for use during the class.

Course dates:

The course consists of four classes held over consecutive weeks, commencing Sunday 25 June. The class dates are:

Week 1: 6pm - 7pm Sunday, 25 June
Week 2: 6pm - 7pm Sunday, 2 July
Week 3: 6pm - 7pm Sunday, 9 July
Week 4: 6pm - 7pm Sunday, 16 July

About your instructor, Rainbow:

Rainbow is an international award-winning Newcastle-based performance artist, teacher and producer renowned for her fan dancing expertise. She can’t wait to introduce you to the joy and art of fan dancing.

What to wear: bring clothes you can move and dance in. It is suggested that you wear close fitting clothes as lose-fitting clothes get caught in the feathers and fan staves. You are also welcome to bring dancing shoes (ballet flats, chorus, salsa or ballroom shoes), but you can also dance barefoot if you prefer.

Who is the class for?

The course is open to all persons over the age of 18 who wish to learn how to fan dance.
This course is designed for fan dancing novices, but those who have some experience and would like to brush up on their skills are also invited to attend.

You agree that it is your responsibility to only select classes which are suitable for your fitness level and experience. If you are injured, pregnant or have existing medical conditions, please consult your doctor before commencing a new dance class. If for any reason you feel any pain or discomfort during the classes, it is your responsibility to immediately stop participating and inform us immediately and seek appropriate medical attention.
