Event description

Welcome to Australia's largest regular poetry slam! After a massive Grand Slam earlier this month, we are so excited to be kicking off our monthly slams again and celebrating our 11th birthday together ❤️‍🔥

*Please Note: Venue change for this month only - this month’s event will be held at the Bryan Brown theatre in Bankstown*

This month, we are so excited and honoured to be featuring Bernadette Kirwan, who will be launching her new book with us!

Entry to this month’s slam is FREE but registrations are essential.

About our incredible feature:

Bernadette, The Celtic Arab, is both a teacher and a multiplatform content creator. She is also a writer, mainly of poetry, born in Australia to an Irish father and a Palestinian mother.

Online she creates content about varying topics such as: advocacy for victims of child abuse, her Irish and Palestinian heritage, fashion and her own poetry. Her overall goal with both content creation and writing, is to be a part of the voice creating awareness and fostering change around the topic of child abuse and cultural diversity.

Please join us at our new time of 6:30 pm!

Your ticket gets you access to the slam, fresh watermelon, world class poetry and some bad dad jokes, courtesy of our MC Sara.

For rules on participating in the slam, please see below.

🍉 If you are intending to sign up to perform at the slam, please book a ticket and arrive at 6:15 pm to sign up at the door. We generally do not offer free artist tickets but if you you have special circumstances/are experiencing financial difficulty, please get in touch so that we can issue you a free ticket.

🍉 Regular slam rules apply: No age restrictions/ STRICT 3 minute time limit (try to limit poem introductions)/ no props or music/ poetry must be your original work.

🍉 The top 4 scoring artists will be granted a spot at the Grand Slam.

🍉 Please note that signing up does not guarantee a performance spot. We have a lottery system in place whereby we randomly draw names so that it is fair for everyone, given the high sign up numbers!

Poetry aficionados, appreciators of HipHop and literature that beats with a thunderous heart — you absolutely do not want to miss this!

Please note that BPS is a not for profit charitable organisation so any extra donations go a long way in helping us support our artists! Thank you for your generosity ❤️‍🔥
