This month Andrew Derzay will present - Closer to the Front: The Lives of Waukesha Women in the First World War

Our February 11th, 2025 Lunch and Learn will focus on Waukesha women’s societal roles before, during, and after WWI. Andrew Derzay will discuss how female nurses performed overseas, the assumptions they had to overcome including general conditions of a “typical” workday and training, and most importantly life on the Homefront working “men’s” jobs. The presentation will also focus on how women during this era gained certain rights after the war, touching on themes of suffrage, opposition, and equal rights. “Closer to the Front” may be a familiar title, as it is based on our current exhibit co-curated between Andrew and the museum’s Curator.

Andrew completed his internship with the Waukesha County Historical Society and Museum in the fall of 2023 and continues volunteering with us. He has a Bachelor’s in World History with an emphasis in Public History and a Minor in German, which he attained from UW- La Crosse while working as an intern at the La Crosse County Historical Society. Andrew is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, focusing on Public History with a certificate in Museum Studies.

$28 - Nonmembers with a Box Lunch of choice
$25 - Members with a Box Lunch of Choice
$10 - Program only, no lunch

Rochester Deli's box lunches include a sandwich, chips, and a dessert. All sandwiches are on multi grain bread* with leaf lettuce, tomato, with mayo and brown mustard on the side. Sandwich options include:

Chicken Breast Salad
Egg Salad
Grilled Veggie
Tuna Salad

A link to submit your box lunch choice will be listed in your confirmation email after purchasing tickets. Please make sure to submit your choices by 4pm the Friday before the event. If you do not submit a lunch choice, the default option of Turkey will be ordered for you. Water will be provided.

How can I submit my box lunch choice? Your purchase confirmation email has a link to submit your lunch choices. Please make sure to do so by 4pm the Friday before the event. If we do not have a lunch choice submission for you, we will order you the default sandwich choice of turkey. If you have any problems, please call 262-521-2859.

What if I need to cancel my order? Rochester Deli needs the lunch order by the Friday before the Lunch & Learn date. While you can cancel after that date, we are only able to refund the program cost ($10) if you cancel after the lunch order has been placed.
