Event description

The Role of Enterprise Models in Coordinated Continuous Digital Transformation

Professor Erik Proper

Abstract
Prof. Erik Proper's research focuses on understanding and improving modelling practices, particularly within enterprises. "Model" is broadly defined, encompassing everything from napkin sketches to UML or ArchiMate Diagrams. This talk will explore the role of enterprise models in digital transformations. Given the rapid pace of digital innovation, digital transformation should be continuous and coordinated among various stakeholders and activities, leading to the concept of coordinated continuous digital transformation. This coordination involves enterprise design dialogues, where enterprise (architecture) models serve as key artefacts. These models provide data-driven insights, guide and document design decisions, and monitor transformation.

Biography
Prof. Dr. Henderik A. Proper,
known as Erik, is a Full Professor in Enterprise and Process Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). With a diverse background in academia and industry, Erik focuses on developing theories with both theoretical rigor and practical relevance. His research centers on domain modelling, especially within enterprises. Over the past 30 years, Erik has advanced the field of enterprise design management and enterprise modelling. Prof. Proper co-initiated the ArchiMate research project, leading to the ArchiMate standard for enterprise architecture modelling. In 2010, he was warded the FNR PEARL laureate, prompting his move to the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. In early 2023, Erik joined TU Wien as a Full Professor in Enterprise & Process Engineering.
