Event description

Achieve easy, natural upright posture using gentle, intriguing movements on the floor. 

While in the lying down position your muscles will soften and release and you will be guided to create a pleasant pulsing movement from foot to head which will improve the alignment of your spine and whole skeleton. When you return to standing you may be surprised to find yourself much more upright with an easy, comfortable good posture.

What will we cover?

A brief review of skeletal anatomy and neurophysiology of posture and balance.

Then a set neurosensory exercises to relax and foster smooth, graceful coordination

·      A gentle push/pull action from the feet, legs and hips, connecting through the spine to the head and neck

·      Gentle, pleasant movements of the head and neck, encouraging a feeling of the head floating effortlessly

·      Discovering the connection of your whole self, from foot to head

·      Undo unconscious habits of tension and restriction

·      Come out of your slump, physically and mentally

·      Learn techniques and principles for ongoing self-maintenance, injury prevention and injury recovery

·      Improve your performance at work, play, yoga, dance, sport and all the things you love doing.

The movement exercises will be done lying on the floor.

The exercises are done gently and easily, at your own pace, so they are suitable for all levels of fitness/unfitness, all levels of flexibility/inflexibility.

Who will be teaching? 

Ralph (he/him) is a certified Feldenkrais practitioner, practising in Melbourne. He is one of Australia’s most experienced Feldenkraisers, having been teaching since 1988. He offers his own workshops, weekly classes and individual sessions, helping his clients recover from injury, build health and relaxation and improve performance at work and play.

Ralph is the author of the recently published book, Your 14 Day Pelvis Program, a set of mind-body exercises for healing, vitality and sensuality. He has presented for many organisations including CAE, Arthritis Foundation, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Gawler Foundation and RMIT.

From 2012-2018 Ralph was editor of Feldenkrais Australia, the national journal of the Australian Feldenkrais Guild Inc. He teaches with clarity, respect and good humour, combining fun with serious learning.

In his spare time he has acquired a black belt in Aikido, played cricket, sung in choirs, published a book of poetry and solved cryptic crossword puzzles.
