FermentaGrow: Cultivating and Preserving

This workshop is all about how to grow food and the the art of fermentation, all the way from the starting stage of working your soil to jarring your sauerkraut.

Join Kym (AKA the Farm Guy) from Kitchen Farm Adelaide Hills in an in-depth workshop on all things growing and fermenting with your produce. With an emphasis on sustainable practices, our workshop embraces the farm-to-table ethos, showcasing how local produce can be transformed into pantry staples that burst with flavour all year round.

Kym studied and worked as a chef in commercial kitchens before swapping the stainless-steel lifestyle for the outdoors and has been in the permaculture farming world since. Kym has taken his knowledge of cookery and years growing plants at farms and his nursery to combine the two for this fermenting food preserving course.

This course will cover the following topics:

  1. Cultivate Your Garden: Gain hands-on insights into successful garden cultivation techniques, regardless of your gardening experience. Learn about soil health, seed selection, organic pest control, and sustainable gardening practices that will ensure a bountiful harvest.
  2. Harvesting Techniques: Explore the art of timing your harvests for maximum flavor and nutritional value. Discover the secrets of proper harvesting, from delicate herbs to hearty root vegetables, and understand the importance of post-harvest care.
  3. The Magic of Fermentation: Uncover the transformative power of fermentation as we guide you through various fermentation methods. From lacto-fermentation to pickling and beyond, you'll learn how to harness beneficial microbes to create delicious, probiotic-rich foods that promote gut health.
  4. Culinary Creativity: Enjoy some tasters provided by us and how chef Maony uses fermented foods at the Kitchen Farm Pantry.
  5. Interactive Demo: This workshop has a live demonstration on how to start a salt based ferment and will show all the basics principles, different methods and procedures on how to start your fermentation journey.
