Gian Slater will present two projects for the 2024 SIMA Women’s Jazz Festival: the launch of her solo album, Glimmer and the premiere performance of SIMA commission Tapestries featuring Simon Barker, Phil Slater, Jess Green and Freyja Garbett.
Gian’s 9th album release ‘Glimmer’ is a collection of new songs performed solo on piano/voice. The songs reflect transforming experiences and shifting self-narrative. A deeply cathartic reckoning with stubborn expectations, self-criticism, friendship, family and most all compassion.
Tapestries Premiere
Tapestries is a new song cycle inspired by Gian’s late Grandmother and her tapestry-filled walls. The songs reflect on moments of care, pause and patience, a yearning for quiet, calm spaces amongst the chaos and overwhelm of life.
The cycle weaves these compositions through the musical textures and interplay of Gian Slater – Voice/Piano, Simon Barker- Drums, Phil Slater- Trumpet, Freyja Garbett – Keyboards and Jess Green – Guitar.
