Event description

Get ready for the excitement of all things ‘cherry’ with our coach trip to the National Cherry Festival in Young.

Departing Canberra at 8am, our first stop of the day will be at Ballinaclash Orchard and Cellar Door. Here, you will get to pick your own cherries (and possibly apricots if they are ready). There will also be plenty of time to explore the cellar door and shop to pick up some unique gifts.

  • The entry fee to Ballinaclash to pick your own cherries is included in your ticket price.
  • Cherries sell at $11/kg with a minimum pick/spend of 1kg per person.

Once you have completed your cherry picking and shopping, we are off to the main centre of Young to join in the fun and festivities of the 73rd National Cherry Festival. There promises to be plenty of market stalls, and thrill seekers can enjoy the excitement of Carnival Alley.

Crowd pleasers include:

  • 1:30pm: Celtic Tattoo Massed Band Spectacular
  • 2:30pm: Wilders Bakery Cherry Pie Eating Championship.

Of course, we can’t go all the way to Young and miss one of the best highlights of any festival: the street parade! The parade kicks off at 4pm, and we will be departing Young once the parade has wrapped up.

About Ballinaclash Orchard and Cellar Door: Established in 1965, Ballinaclash is a small pick-your-own orchard, vineyard and cellar door run by Peter and Cath Mullany and their six children. It is situated near Young and prides itself in growing the best possible fruit for its customers and producing boutique-style products and single vineyard wines made exclusively from their fruit.

About the National Cherry Festival: Get ready for an explosion of colour and excitement at the 2023 National Cherry Festival, an event that promises unforgettable moments that you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Will the record for the longest Pip Spit be shattered this year? Who’s stepping up to claim the title of the 2023 Cherry Pie Eating Champion? Join us on this trip, and you will have the answers to these questions by day's end.
