Field of Mars, Mangroves and Sugarloaf Point Guided Walk
Event description
Join us for a wonderfully varied walk featuring forested sandstone hillsides, mangroves and river views. Our expert guide is Patrick Spiers, bushwalker and teacher at the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre.
You will see a diversity of vegetation: Sydney Sandstone Gully Forest and Ridgetop Woodland on the hillside of the Field of Mars; the Mangroves below Buffalo Creek Reserve, a world totally different from the surrounding bushland; on the slope of Sugarloaf Hill a beautiful sandstone landscape of Eucalypts, Angophoras, Xanthorrhoea (grass trees) and flowering understorey with glimpses to the Lane Cove River through the trees. The track continues to Sugarloaf Point, part of Lane Cove National Park, where open grassed areas provide a picnic and relaxation area beside the river. Time permitting we may stop here for a snack and chat.
Buffalo Creek Reserve is also a lovely, well equipped picnic area where you may prefer to lunch after the walk.
