Fighting Racism & Bigotry on Campus #09: SASH & Racism
Event description
The convergence of SASH (Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment) and racism perpetuates the oppression and exclusion experienced by people of color and racialized individuals. Traditionally, sexual harassment and assault have been examined separately from racist and supremacist attacks, without recognizing the intersection between these forms of oppression. However, this intersection is an extension of white supremacist power dynamics, which disproportionately affect racialized communities and minorities, particularly women and LGTBIQ+ people. Sexism and racism have historically been intertwined and have served as pretexts to impose submission and even expulsion. Understanding the complex interaction between racism and sexism is vital to effectively combat both systems of oppression. It is imperative to address sexual harassment on campus, along with other forms of racial violence and discrimination.
