Join us for popcorn, good chats and movies, at Library at The Dock, on 7th of July 3-5pm.
WIRE's Film and Feminist Chats is in collaboration with City of Melbourne Libraries.
For this session of Film and Feminist Chats, we are screening, Beyond Sorry for NAIDOC week. This years NAIDOC theme is 'For our Elders'. An opportunity to acknowledge the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, who have guided First Nation advocacy and activism, and cared for culture, the land and waters.
Beyond Sorry, a film of two women's journey connecting to land, culture, family and language.
This film provides a first hand insight of the experiences and impacts of colonisation. As perfectly described in Beyond Sorry, by Ron Wallace, 'when you start off as a kid, and points of views were forced upon you...punished for not following a point of view...you get indoctrinated...it's difficult to go backwards".
We join Zita and Aggie, following their developing friendship as they support each other through their varying journey of reconnecting and regaining their Aboriginal roots.
This is a powerful and personal story, that's familiar to many about the stolen generation. 'Beyond Sorry' is beyond politics and beyond debate.
Our Film and Feminist Chats is an opportunity for us to come together with shared values, to connect and to chat our thoughts and views about each film. We will provide beverages, tea and popcorn. Our programs are created by our community for our community to share and empower.
