Celebrate refugee week with us as we raise funds for refugee-led education and girls education in Afghanistan. Muzafar Ali will be joining us for a film screening and fireside chat.

This June, Muzafar Ali and the Cisarua Learning Team will be cycling 4,000km from Maleny to Adelaide to support refugee-led education and women's education in Afghanistan!

Ten years ago, they started the first refugee-led school in Indonesia with just $200 and a dream. Today, their community has grown to support over 1,300 students across seven refugee-led initiatives.

Muzafar is riding because of the girls in Afghanistan who can't attend school, the refugee children in Indonesia seeking hope, and for all their supporters who've believed in them for a decade. This journey isn't about speed—it's about patience and commitment, the same values that built their schools.

Their goal is to raise $250,000 to support education for 2,500 students through 130 teachers in 8 schools and 7 countries.

Fatima Rahmati:

I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and at the age of five, my family fled as refugees from Afghanistan to Australia.

My experience as a refugee, my fathers legacy of educator and social activism and my mothers relentless efforts to raise us under the most difficult circumstances paved the way to my dedication to human rights.

I have over 15 years of experience in advocacy and community development across human rights organisations. Working alongside organizations such as The Gathering For Justice, a social justice organization founded by Harry Belafonte, IRAP-the International Refugee Assistance Project, Afghan Hands, Women for Afghan Women and the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

Natascha Woolliams:

I’m an advocate for those from asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds in my corporate role and outside of work. This advocacy comes from my belief that changing even one persons perspective or a small positive impact on someone’s life can create bigger change over time. One of the ways I do this is through serving on the board at Australian Refugee Volunteers, where I help plan their events with young people.

Sara Saddhasena:

By day, I’m a data analyst, but beyond the numbers, I care deeply about supporting members of the Refugee and Asylum Seeker community. Through my role as Co-President of Australian Refugee Volunteers, I have the privilege of supporting our team to create opportunities for children from these backgrounds to connect, grow, and thrive in a supportive community.
