ONLINE SALES ARE NOW CLOSED BUT TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR

This event is hosted by APOLLO BAY RURAL AUSTRALIANS FOR REFUGEES (ABRAR) and every $ raised will go directly to the families that we are supporting, in ever more difficult conditions, in Afghanistan or neighboring countries while they desperately seek safe new homes.

Share an evening with Barat Ali Batoor and Richard di Natale who will lead the discussion after we watch Batoor's film ‘Batoor: A Refugee Journey’ - followed by refreshments and informal chat

Barat Ali Batoor is a member of the Hazara ethnic group and faced violent oppression in Pakistan before seeking asylum in Australia. His journey took weeks, cost thousands of dollars, and nearly ended in disaster countless times. The film is a powerful depiction of his story.  He is a multi award-winning photographer and filmmaker and the film we are showing won an award for the ‘Best Director’ at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and was also nominated for the 2021 Walkley Documentary Award.

Richard di Natale was the leader of the Australian Greens from 2015-2020 and was the Greens’ first Victorian Senator. A GP and public health specialist, Richard has advocated strongly in the Aboriginal health and drug and alcohol sectors, climate change, economic inequality and destruction of our environment. Richard lives off the grid on a farm in the foothills of Victoria's Otway Ranges and has been a long-time supporter of ABRAR and was a guest at its opening event 10 years ago.
