Film Night: Community in action
Description
Community in Action: A Film Night
Two films about communities creating a better future together
What makes a community thrive? And what can we achieve when we come together to make things better and more sustainable?
Join us for a film night celebrating people who are turning big ideas into action, building connections and finding practical ways to create a better future.
We'll be showing two documentaries that explore the power of people working together, from a community hub in Lower Hutt to an ambitious vision for an all-electric community in Australia.
Film 1: Together We Grow
What does a thriving, resilient community look like in practice?
This New Zealand documentary tells the story of Common Unity, a community hub in Lower Hutt, near Wellington, where people grow food, sew, repair, share resources and support one another. It explores how a community can respond to challenges such as food insecurity, social isolation and the climate crisis by bringing people together, sharing skills and creating opportunities for everyone to contribute.
A hopeful story about the difference people can make when they work together.
Film 2: Can Saul Griffith's all-electric energy dream become a reality?
Inventor Saul Griffith has spent years advocating for a future powered by electricity rather than fossil fuels. This Australian Story documentary follows his journey and his efforts to bring that vision to life in Australia, including through Electrify 2515, an ambitious, community-led project showing how households can move away from fossil fuels.
As political changes challenge his optimism, the film explores the people, ideas and local action behind the push for change.
