Event description

Come and join us for our next wonderful movie night in Alstonville!

Duck Creek Film Society proudly presents ‘The Old Oak’, a heartwarming film from legendary film maker Ken Loach. ‘The Old Oak’ is set in an ex-coal mining village in England, and tells the stories of the locals and a group of recently arrived Syrian refugees. A friendship develops between the publican TJ and Yara, one of the refugees. Can they find a way for the two communities to understand each other? This is a film about friendship, community and hope.

The venue is Alstonville Public (Primary) School, main entrance at 58 Main St.
Doors open at 6pm for music and food in the courtyard. Hot and cold beverages, and delicious home made finger foods (fundraiser for Alstonville PS P&C) are available to purchase between 6pm and 7pm, and during intermission. Sorry no BYO alcohol.

The film starts at 7pm, and our evening finishes by 9.45 pm.
As a film society, we can only provide screenings to our members. You are purchasing a one-month membership to Duck Creek Film Society which entitles you to entry to our film screening. Tickets are $12.50 online pre-paid (incl. fees) or $14 at the door (eftpos or cash).

The world premiere for ‘The Old Oak’ was at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and the film was released in the United Kingdom on 29 September 2023. Film rating is MA 15+. Coarse language is part of the vernacular of the local ex coal mining men frequenting ‘The Old Oak’ local pub.
