Event description

Funded by the Sydney Film Cooperative in 1975, Elsie: A Study of a Collective offers a rare glimpse into the early days of Elsie Women’s Refuge, featuring archival footage and conversations with women who lived and worked in the shelter.

Artist Zanny Begg will introduce the film and lead a conversation with Directors Lis Rust & Tina Słoń, reflecting on the making of the documentary, their experiences within the refuge community, the Sydney lesbian movement, the power of collective organising, and the enduring politics of friendship.
