Film screening: Bay Views for All
Description
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion including speakers (TBA)
About the film:
Documentary launched in November 2025
Told without warning that their Port Melbourne homes would be demolished, residents of the Barak Beacon housing estate join forces to fight for a future in safe, secure and affordable Public Housing.
Shot over two years, the story follows seven residents as they experience the destruction of their homes and community. The film documents the history of the buildings, the people who lived in them, and the building of a campaign to save their homes from gentrification. It shows how a life altering event can transform ordinary people and galvanise them to act to make change.

About the host: Stop the Demo
We are a coalition of workers, advocates, and community organisations standing with residents to defend their homes. We organise, advocate, and hold governments accountable when policies put people at risk of homelessness or displacement. We oppose the privatisation of public housing and any measures that threaten people’s homes.
We take action to protect public housing and strengthen community power by supporting resident- led campaigns to stop demolitions. We seek to keep people housed and amplify resident voices to ensure housing decisions are fair, transparent and just. We defend public housing.
Join us: We meet every last Wednesday of the month at a local library in Naarm. If you’re a former or current community service's worker, social worker, housing or homelessness worker or anyone supporting our vulnerable communities, we’d love to hear from you.

Free tickets are available for social housing residents, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, or people experiencing homelessness.
Any revenues raised from ticket sales for this screening will be used for a larger upcoming fundraiser later in the year with the aim of supporting resident-led groups campaigning against the demolition of the towers.
The venue is fully accessible and has gender neutral bathrooms.
We acknowledge that the public housing towers targeted for demolition stand on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present and recognise their ongoing connection to the land, waters and community.
We recognise the high rates of social injustice faced by Aboriginal people and the persistent disparities across housing, health and social outcomes. These injustices are not separate from the broader struggles of the community: housing justice, land justice, and self-determination are inseparable.
Decisions to sell and demolish public housing have been made without meaningful community consultation, at a time when Treaty should be leading in Victoria. We stand in solidarity with the community, and call for justice, equity and the right to safe, secure housing for all.
