Film screening: Gaza Nippers - Hope Amid Genocide
Event description
Two young men from Gaza were brought to Australia in 2019 by the Northern Beaches Committee for Palestine to train as surf lifesavers at North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club in Manly. On their return to Gaza, they set up a Nippers programme along Australian lines for Gaza’s children and drew up plans to build the first surf lifesaving club in the Middle East. But after one successful season, several of these children and supporting adults have been killed in Israel’s bombardment.
Gaza Nippers - Hope Amid Genocide reveals the heartbreaking yet inspiring story of children in Gaza growing up under siege and wars inflicted on them by Israel. The Nippers programme offers a lifeline, teaching children to swim, surf and find moments of joy. Amid the horrors of genocide in Gaza, the film highlights the shocking loss of young lives in the programme. Despite unimaginable tragedy, Gaza Nippers stands as a symbol of hope and perseverance for the children of Gaza.
This documentary records what the Gaza surf lifesaving project has achieved, in the hope that it will continue when the rebuilding of Gaza begins.
Doors open at 6.30 pm. The event begins at 7.00 pm with some short speeches followed by the film screening. A Q & A follows the screening.
