Film Screening: 'O lou taimi nei' (Your Time is Now)
Event description
'O lou taimi nei' (Your Time is Now) is a powerful short documentary capturing a landmark cultural moment: the introduction of Ballroom culture to Samoa’s Fa’afafine and Fa’atama communities.
Led by a vibrant team from Australia—Ella Ganza (Miss Samoa Fa’afafine 2024/2025 and Mother of the House of Alexander), Eliam Royalness (Father of the House of Juicy-Couture AUS), and Pisces 'Pulusi' Alexander (House of Alexander)—and presented by Samoa-based youth organisation Brown Girl Woke, this film documents a joyful, transformative exchange of identity, pride, and performance.
From immersive workshops to the electrifying 'Boom, Kaisi Ball', 'O lou taimi nei' celebrates the power of self-expression and global queer solidarity, especially within the Pacific diaspora. It stands as both a cultural milestone and a heartfelt tribute to the resilience, creativity, and visibility of Samoa’s LGBTQIA+ and SOGIESC communities.
