Efforts to understand the impacts of climate change on our society, livelihoods, ecosystems and economies is a complex and multi-faceted discipline. Climatologists understand the way by which the climate is changing. Economists can use existing theories and models to speculate on and predict loss and opportunity. Media can use research and statistics to tell whatever story they'd like to. Everyday citizen are usually too busy going about their day to notice too much outside the day-to-day experience of the weather.

After decades of dire warnings that a changing climate will wreak devastating impacts across all of our lives, why is it that the work of central banks in assessing sovereign financial stability often results in benign reporting results? If investors and companies are so eager to create and become signatories of initiatives such as the Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and almost every individual company's annual disclosure states that climate change is a significant issue to be addressed, why does scenario analysis after scenario analysis after scenario analysis result in immaterial or negligible outputs? It doesn't make sense.

This night is about exploring and deconstructing these uncertainties, paradoxes and confusing uncertainties with leading climate risk practitioner Alexander Pui to attempt to better understand and make sense of the disconnect and baffling divergence between what the science is telling us and why it's so difficult to identify and predict with accuracy the widespread financial implications a changing climate has, is and will have on economies and societies.
