    Event description

Help turn Sydenham into a giant outdoor art gallery in this 4-hour behind-the-scenes experience with Canberra based artist Claire Granata from PeopleLab.

PeopleLab make art gallery labels that draw attention to interesting things (like a tree that looks like it’s dancing, or a wall that looks like chocolate cake). PeopleLab then run public events where people go and stick those labels in place.

To celebrate 2044 PeopleLab invite you to be part of their devising process. You’ll explore the nooks and crannies of Sydenham – looking up, down, inside and behind. You’ll discover details that surprise and delight you, then invent titles for these everyday artworks.

After the workshop Claire will collaborate with local Inner West based artists to turn your discoveries into physical labels for Public Art Treasure Hunt the following weekend where your findings will be shared with the world. The Treasure Hunt Event will take place as part of EDGE Sydenham celebrations at Sydenham Green on Saturday 19th August from 12-5pm where you can join in again!

“We love doing this bit because we feel like tourists in our own town and find amazing things in mundane places”, says Pablo, PeopleLab’s co-founder. “So we made this workshop to give people that same joy of discovery. And because your ideas and perspectives will make our art better!”

“I really liked the structure. It was clear and easy to understand. The two hours scouting were so cool. I enjoyed observing details from the place where I live, but sometimes forget to have fun.” - Previous participant
