Event description

It’s time to find nature and eat Country. Join us as we venture to Monkerai in the Hunter Valley to experience a three (or two) night stay at Jocelyn King’s farm to explore, participate in and contribute to the reawakening of a First Nations food and land custodianship story hundreds and thousands of years in the making.

Jocelyn is a Bundjalung woman who has spent much of her life learning about, connecting with and reprising First Nations Country and Culture to go with a career that has spanned finance, not for profit and government sectors. On Djanaba Farm, Jocelyn and her family are working to literally plant traditional foods and re-awaken a First Nations food system that heals Country and Culture. At the same time, she is aiming to demonstrate how this approach to Caring for Country aligns with emergent regenerative agriculture practices, highlighting the synergies and mutual benefits of ancient Indigenous knowledge and matching that with western scientific methods.

On this trip we will hear from, learn through and contribute directly to this project. That involves hearing and learning from Jocelyn through storytelling of how colonial practices and mindsets disrupted a relationship to Country stretching beyond the end of our ability to imagine. She’ll also share her work and approach to finance, western capitalist models and how Indigenous knowledge offers insights and wisdom many of us can take back to our personal and professional lives no matter the context. Lastly, we’ll be rolling up our sleeves and getting involved in Caring for Country - that is, Jocelyn will be putting us to work so that we can gain a direct appreciation of what this conceptual notion means in reality.

This isn’t one to miss, a rare opportunity to get beyond the words and intention of First Nations allyship and into action. We’re only offering ten spots for this, deliberately intended to be intimate and to create something truly memorable and meaningful.

The trip is designed for three or two night stays (but we recommend the full three night). We will provide all meals for your stay.

What you’ll need to bring and do:

  • Camping gear (we will provide a list of suggested items upon sign up)

  • Organise transport to and from Djanaba Farm (approx three hours from Sydney)
