Finding Nature Finds Goolay’yari
Event description
Time for Finding Nature to Find Nature again.
With each seasonal shift, Finding Nature takes a group of intrepid people to an urban-nature interface somewhere around Sydney. This time, we are visiting my beloved Goolay’yari - or the Cooks River in colonial terms.
I love Goolay’yari. I have lived on and around Our Backyard River for a decade, and its unique characteristics and accessible beauty right in the middle of dozens of Sydney’s suburbs remains one of the city’s best kept secrets.
This morning will be about connecting to Goolay’yari - learning about its current health, it’s history and plans to continue to restore a vital waterway that provides habitat for hundreds of species, delivers cooling to surrounding areas and acts as a meeting place for recreation, leisure and relaxation. We’ll be touring different ecosystems along the river, before finishing our exploration at the Marrickville Golf Club for lunch and to discuss and work on some key problem statements the Cooks River Alliance are seeking help in addressing.
Combining movement, education, participation and nourishment, this will be an experience not to miss. Tickets won’t last long, so get in quick.
We’ll have coffee for you upon arrival, with lunch a self-paid activity.
NB: Kids welcome but we'll be walking 4-5km so please keep that in mind.
