Join us for a morning packed with great Citizen Science activities: a Beach Clean up and a Biodiversity Photography Walk at Fingal Head. This event is a collaboration between Fingal Head Coastcare and Dolphin Research Australia | Ocean Education & Conservation - as part of the Byron-Tweed Hope Spot Ocean Champion Program.

We'll start by gathering near the Surf Life Saving Club at Fingal. We'll then head to Fingal Beach for the Beach Clean Up, and walk to the Fingal Nursery to sort and record litter types. This will be followed by the Biodiversity Photography Walk in the remnant rainforest section of Fingal Head. Help record the biodiversity of this special place, as part to our citizen science initiative. Take photos of plant and animal species and upload into the iNaturalist database, under the Byron-Tweed Hope Spot Project, contributing to the biodiversity records of the region.

Marine debris is one of the biggest threats to our coastal marine ecosystems. Understanding what washes up on our beaches helps us take meaningful action to reduce waste at the source.

This event brings our community together to learn, collaborate and build shared solutions across the Byron–Tweed Hope Spot. By joining local groups and contributing your observations, you’ll help strengthen our collective response to marine debris and support long‑term behaviour change.

This event is part of a series of events in the Byron-Tweed Hope Spot Ocean Champion Program coordinated by Dolphin Research Australia | Ocean Education & Conservation with support from a 1% for the Planet grant from Patagonia Australia to help address key threats to our region through grass-roots action.

What to Bring

Hat, sunscreen, enclosed shoes, weather protective clothing
Water
Snacks
Mobile phone (charged) and/or camera to take photos of wildlife and plants and upload images onto iNaturalist
Gloves (we will supply, but if you have some of your own, please bring them along)

– Even though this is an outdoor event, each participant must register and hold a ticket to be able to attend
