Our Goal
Our goal is to accelerate the achievement of WHO Malaria-Free Certification for the Western Pacific Rim region with our partners the Global Fund and APLMA
To Finish the Fight against Malaria, more funding and support is needed.
Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) has already made a big impact in the region by supporting a proven malaria-fighting combination. This formula to date includes; Malaria Vector Control (Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets - LLINs and Indoor Residual Spraying - IRS); Malaria Case Management (Universal access to quality assured early diagnosis and prompt appropriate treatment) and Behaviour Change Communication within the local communities. According to the WHO World Malaria Report 2023, Malaria cases and deaths globally have reduced and increased respectively. However, 76% of all deaths are children, with a child dying every 68 seconds. In the Western Pacific Rim Region, Malaria cases and deaths in 2022 increased by 30% and 37% respectively compared to 2021. Papua New Guinea represents 90% and 94% respectively of all cases and deaths in the region. Our goal of WHO Malaria-Free Certification for the Western Pacific Rim region will require more focus and resources in order to achieve this.
The Vital Role of Community Health Workers
The key to finishing the fight against malaria faster is Community Health Workers. They are highly trained individuals who work with, and in, the local communities helping test, diagnose, contact trace, and treat malaria with the correct medicines and interventions. They are critical to our success against malaria and their importance cannot be underestimated. Together, with intensified support, we can employ additional Community Health Workers and provide the necessary critical malaria commodities to the Western Pacific Rim region to help eliminate malaria faster. United we can help communities thrive in the Western Pacific Rim region, free from malaria.
All money raised at this event will go to Rotarians Against Malaria to Finish the Fight against malaria in the Western Pacific Rim which includes our closest neighbours: Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
