Event description

Canberra Blues Society is thrilled to present a very special Guitar MasterClass with multi-award winner Fiona Boyes.

Fiona’s recent award-winning albums have been described by American critics as a ‘blues road trip through America’s Deep South’.  Across a wide range of regional blues styles Fiona’s guitar playing is always grounded in the traditions of the music.

Grab your guitar and let’s explore:

  • Fingerpicking blues: How to get started & how to arrange your songs in this style
  • Riffs from the Bandstand:  Classic Chicago licks inspired by tours with Bob Margolin (Muddy Water’s Band) & Hubert Sumlin (Howlin’ Wolf Band)
  • Back to the Juke Joint: Mississippi grooves
  • Louisiana Blues: Double stops and twangy bends

NUMBERS CAPPED AT 10 PARTICIPANTS.

We’ll work in an interactive Q & A style, with hands-on playing.

Fiona has recently been inducted to the Blues Music Victoria Hall of Fame and is an 8 time Blues Music Award nominee – the only Australian blues musician to be recognised by the USA Blues Foundation, Memphis.  Her nominations span contemporary, acoustic and traditional categories for both performance and album recordings.

Fiona has also taught guitar and songwriting at Jorma Kaukonen’s (Hot Tuna, The Jefferson Airplane) Fur Peace Ranch in Pomperoy, Ohio and instructed in guitar masterclasses at Pinetop Perkins Foundation in Clarkesdale, Mississippi.

CBS Members: $50 / General $60 + bf

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start to register and get settled. Class will start promptly at 2pm. Don't forget your guitars.
