    Event description

Worried about bushfire safety and looking to protect your home and loved ones? Now is the perfect time to start planning for the upcoming bushfire season.

Join us for an engaging and practical session designed to help you prepare your property and develop the appropriate plans for summer. Learn how to create a fire-wise garden using low-flammability native plants, tailored to our local environment.

    Our expert presenters include:

    • Frank Regan, Fire Prevention Officer, Mount Barker Council
    • Vikki Hann, Regional Community Engagement Officer, CFS
    • Paul and Angela, the Two BUSHIES, specialists in Native Fire-Wise Landscaping

They will guide you through essential tips and strategies, including how to design a garden that minimises bushfire risk. Whether you're a homeowner, garden enthusiast, or simply interested in fire safety, this workshop is perfect for you. The principles of fire-wise landscaping are beneficial for both rural and suburban properties, reducing the risk when properly maintained.

This free event also includes a Q&A session, light refreshments, and the opportunity to purchase low-flammability plants grown at the Mount Barker Community Nursery.

This event is part of the Fire Wise Education Project being facilitated by Second Nature Conservancy and Mount Barker District Council. The project is supported by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife and has received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream.
