Fireside Chat with Jeffrey Simpson: Crisis on the Potomac

Join the Ottawa UK alumni associations and friends for an evening with Jeffrey Simpson, acclaimed Canadian journalist and former national affairs columnist for The Globe and Mail.
Simpson, a London School of Economics (LSE) alumnus, will share insights from his distinguished career covering Canadian politics and public policy spanning over three decades. His talk will be followed by a Q&A and reception with hors d'oeuvres by Jacobson and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages. Seating is limited to the first 50 people.
This event is part of the LSE Global Networking Night 2025, when alumni gather on the same night across the globe to connect, network, and celebrate their LSE connection with the local community, and co-organized by the Canadian Friends of LSE (Ottawa Chapter) and DunelmOTTAWA, Durham University alumni (Ottawa Chapter).

Speaker Bio
Jeffrey Simpson is one of Canada’s most decorated journalists. For more than 40 years, he wrote for The Globe and Mail, 32 of which as national affairs columnist. He also appeared frequently on television and radio in English and French. He wrote seven books, one of which won the Governor-General’s award, another the $50,000 Donner Prize for the best book on public policy, entitled Chronic Condition a comprehensive examination of the Canadian health-care system. He won the National Newspaper award twice, and the National Magazine award for column writing. He also won the Hyman Solomon Award for excellence in public policy journalism, the Arthur Kroeger Award for contributions to public discourse, and the Charles Lynch Award for excellence in political journalism.
In 2000, he became an Officer of the Order of Canada. He has received eight honorary degrees from Canadian universities, spoken at more than 600 conferences, penned more than 6,000 columns, and been a guest lecturer at Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, Brigham Young, Johns Hopkins, Maine, California and many universities in Canada.
Simpson is an emeritus senior fellow at the University of Ottawa Graduate School of Policy and International Affairs and was a member of the executive committee of that university’s board of governors for nine years.
