Firm Foundations - Training Day - February 2024

Begin 2024 by being reminded of God’s goodness and spurred on to love and care for your students. Mike Doyle, Senior Minister at St James’ Anglican Church Berala will give a Bible talk and share some of his experience serving in a multicultural community. There will be a focus on making the most of your Bible time in the classroom, you can choose an elective, pray in regional groups and take home free hard-copy resources. We encourage you to come along with your team, be equipped and energised for another year of service to our Lord.

Electives:

1. Serving your Muslim students effectively – Margaret Powell

This elective will explore the issues our Muslims students may bring to the English class, common misconceptions, and obstacles we might face. How can we serve them well, introducing them to Jesus despite their very different beliefs and world views?

Margaret has served with the Ministry to Muslim team with Evangelism and New Churches (ENC) in SW Sydney for nearly 16 years. Her vision is for hundreds of women and their families gathering in small groups throughout SW Sydney to examine the Scriptures exploring Jesus and growing in their faith in him. In a quiet moment she can be found at the beach.

2. Overflowing faith taster – Danielle McGregor

This elective draws from material in a three session Overflowing Faith workshop series we offer. We’ll consider how our faith overflows in our words and actions as we show a genuine interest in others and humbly and thoughtfully engage with views that differ from our own. We’ll briefly consider different worldviews and how the Gospel connects with them, and we’ll think about how to build confidence sharing parts of our own story.

3. Class excursions – Emily Tucker and Sue Radkovic
