For over 65,000 years, First Nations people have been telling stories and creating art here in Boorloo. This evening we hear First Nations artists creating art in Perth today sharing their stories and perspectives of their craft and how their culture has shaped and influenced their creativity.

Renowned painter Bradley Kickett, Singer, musician and music producer, Jarred Wall and Rebecca Rickard of Deadly Denim share their experiences in a conversation with Perth creative Cara Phillips.

JARRED WALL

First Nation singer songwriter, producer & dad, of Wardandi Bibbulmun Nation living on Whadjuk country, Jarred was one of the leads in Australia's first Indigenous language opera, Koolbardi wer Wardong, by respected musicians and songwriters Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse. Performing in his band BOOXKID, Jarred is known for his melodic songwriting and hauntingly beautiful vocals.

BRADLEY KICKETT

Bradley Kickett is a local Noongar artist; born in Northam and grew up in Perth. He descended from the Kickett clan in York, Western Australia and paints in an abstract style, depicitng his subjects from an aerial view. His pieces are influenced by experiencing Noongar country, and hese images are all interwoven with the history and stories passed down to him from his family and elders.

REBECCA RICKARD

Ballardong, Whadjuk woman from the Nyungar nation and creator/owner of Deadly Denim, a fashion label with sustainability at it's heart. All their pieces begin with recycled denim sourced from local op shops, before a unique design is worked into the fabric to create a unique garment. DD also hosts collaborative workshops with youth groups, local high schools and support services for victims of domestic violence.

About our Host: Cara Phillips

Cara Phillips is an actor, director, writer and presenter. She has worked in theatre, film and TV, in Australia and in China. Currently she works as a Senior Lecturer in film, as well as facilitating creativity workshops as an arts therapist. Cara has a keen interest in people's stories and experience and is delighted to explore the stories of our amazing artists and host the fireside chats at Flock Festival.
