'dhelkaya' First Nations Health & Healing Showcase
Event description
La Trobe Rural Health School is hosting the 'dhelkaya' Health and Healing Showcase to bring together, celebrate and amplify First Nations excellence in improving community health and wellbeing. The Dja Dja Wurrung language word 'dhelkaya' translates to being healthy, being good. This event will be held at La Trobe Art Institute, 212View Street, Bendigo Friday, September 15th.
The showcase provides an opportunity for the wider community, including practitioners, policymakers and funders, to learn from innovative First Nations health programs, services, technology and workshops that are making a positive impact. This is a First Nations-led event that will engage attendees in a range of interactive presentations and provide opportunities to come together and share ideas over good food, music and art.
In the spirit of inclusivity, this event may also include African, Indigenous & Islander practitioners showcasing their culturally strong innovations for health.
There are beautiful conferences for research into First Nations health, but we want to provide an opportunity for grassroots programs to shine, and to build a greater understanding in the wider community about First Nations worldviews and perspectives for healing, crossing Western silos of medical, art, wellbeing and conservation. Programs that create healing for our communities, and benefits for everyone from our cultures.
