Training events to INSPIRE + EQUIP women on their political journey

This is a dedicated First Nations Workshop, which is facilitated by First Nations women and specifically designed to address additional considerations encountered by this community when running for public office. 

Have you or someone you know ever thought about standing for political office? If so, this is a workshop for you!

Facilitated by First Nations women with lived experience in political life, we explore the unique space of Blak Politics. Share our political histories and hear insights from local Indigenous women who have successfully represented across the political spectrum.

Learn how to turn aspirations into action.

This free, in-person workshop includes catering. All you need to bring is your curiosity and a ‘get elected’ attitude. Once you’ve attended a Women for Election training event, you’ll have access to ongoing resources and support via our new digital education platform, “Campaign in Your Pocket”.

A quick note on our Terminology: WFE has an inclusive definition of ‘women’. We aim to engage with, and give voice to, the diverse experience of those who may identify as women – including trans, cis and non-binary.

MEET YOUR TRAINERS

Michelle Deshong
Michelle is a Kuku Yalanji woman from North Queensland and lives on the lands of the Wulgurukaba and Bindal people. She has been running her own consultancy for nearly 20 years, and is an accredited trainer and facilitator in leadership, governance, Australian and international politics, and human rights fields.

Rachael Cavanagh
Rachael is a Minyungbal wajung from the Yugambeh nations, who brings a decade of senior executive experience in partnership building, strategic planning, community consultation and policy development. Her career has been built to serve the needs of the community in the broader landscape of policy and the national agenda on First Nations Led Climate Justice, Biodiversity and Land Management.
