    Free Workshops at Uptown Music Albany

    Saturday the 9th of November 2024 from 1-4pm!

    1PM - WORKSHOP 1: First Steps to Gigging with Juni (Local Singer/Songwriter)

    A comprehensive presentation on how to start gigging and playing professionally in Albany - from the first steps of preparation at home to playing professionally onstage.

    1. Are You Ready?... How much song content to build, self-confidence and image, organisational skills.
    2. What You'll Need... Equipment overview: Accessories, stands and PA gear - with real PA displays/configurations and pricing guides!
    3. Promotion and Content... Developing an online presence & utilising social media, recording content to promote with.
    4. Approaching People for Gigs... Listing all the local venues in Albany with ideal musical opportunities for beginners,  (open mic nights and smaller paid gigs), how to approach bookers and what to put in your email and bio to best secure a gig.
    5. The Business Side of Things... Paperwork to be aware of (artist agreements, invoicing, SBS forms etc.), different avenues of promotion.
    6. Got a Gig? How Should it go? A general mock up of what to expect when playing a gig from bump-in to bump-out, advice on timing sets and breaks and being professional.

    2PM: WORKSHOP 2: Being in Band: How to Make/Join a Band and be Successful

    A dynamic workshop with experienced guest speakers that cover everything from the beginning of either forming or joining a band, how to be a good player in a band depending on your instrument and a panel Q&A at the end!

    1. Daniel Bainbridge (Ivory Dusk, Guitar Lessons Albany) talks on putting yourself out there and reaching out to form or join a band, as well as the different kinds of content bands can play.
    2. Matt Looker (Local drum teacher - Great Southern Drums) talks on how to be a good drummer in a band - from fitting the vibe of a gig to learning and retaining songs.
    3. Ben Smith (backing instrumentalist for Juni, InVitro Babies) talks on what makes a good supporting instrumentalist (e.g bass, keys, guitar players that are not the frontmen).
    4. Clay Moir (Ivory Dusk, The Numbats, Gigfoot, Sugaratz) talks on how to be a good frontman and vocalist - especially varying from  band to band.
    5. Q&A Panel: All speakers are open for any questions you have remaining and will share their experiences navigating the art of working with multiple musicians to create professional and successful bands.
