Event description

Join us for First Thursdays in Devonport - Te Hau Kapua

Join us for Slow Looking with Visual Music, an in-gallery Squiggla workshop where we make sense of the senses through hands-on free flow mark making.

As Oskar Fischinger - a legendary 20th C German-American artist who worked with music and abstraction once said:

“Music is not limited to the world of sound. There exists a music of the visual world.”

Workshop participants will be guided to engage with their senses and explore connections between music and mark making. Using slow looking, Squiggla’s focus is on visual exploration, intuitive compositions and improvised ideas. The workshop will be accompanied by jazz music with refreshments provided.

Tickets are $35 and include a Squiggla pack with visual diary, paint sticks and charcoal stick!

Refreshments will be provided by our hospitality partner Toi Toi Wines.

This workshop is suitable for adults.
Koha will be accepted upon entry.

About Squiggla

Squiggla, the outreach project of the Chartwell Trust, is a hands-on creative visual thinking programme. We increasingly know the importance of creativity for well-being and no matter what age you are, you can exercise and train to think more creatively. After all, learning is what our brains and bodies do all the time. Squiggla mark making activities tap into the senses, our hands, eye, mind and heart. Squiggla does not seek meaning from familiar, recognisable images. We encourage all to break from familiar habits, disrupt barriers to creating in the moment and relax into the process of playful exploration.
