Join us for an evening soiree with drinks and canapés in the historic MacLaurin Hall, as we toast the current Fisher Library’s 60th anniversary.

Hear from guest speaker Kate McClymont AM – investigative reporter, seven-time Walkley Award winner and University of Sydney alumnus – as well as Associate Professor Cate Storey OAM, who will discuss the Library's significant anniversary acquisition of a first edition 16th century "revolutionary masterpiece of anatomical art and science".

Fittingly, MacLaurin Hall was the first location of Fisher Library, opened in 1909 following a generous bequest by Thomas Fisher, a retired bootmaker and property investor. It was the first purpose-built Library at the University. Soon, the demand for the Library outgrew this location, leading to the opening of our current Fisher Library in 1963. This building marked a new era for library architecture in Australia, receiving prestigious awards for its architectural merit.

However, more than just a significant building, studying and gathering in Fisher is a quintessential part of the University experience. Fisher is a place of friendship, scholarly endeavours, tales of coincidence, love, solitude and community encounters.

We are excited by this opportunity to engage with the many people for whom Fisher holds a special place in their studies, careers, and personal lives.
