FKCANT | Responding to High-Risk Behaviours – Free Carer Workshop
Description
Responding to High-Risk Behaviours
Free Workshop for Volunteer Foster and Kinship Carers
When a child or young person's behaviour escalates, knowing how to respond safely and confidently can make all the difference.
FKCANT is pleased to welcome Build Up NT, an experienced Northern Territory behaviour support provider, to deliver this practical workshop specifically for Volunteer Foster and Kinship Carers.
The workshop will focus on understanding challenging behaviours, recognising when situations may escalate, and developing practical strategies to respond safely and effectively.
What will we cover?
✅ Understanding the aggression cycle – Recognising the different stages of escalation and identifying early warning signs.
✅ De-escalation and redirection strategies – Practical approaches to reducing tension and supporting children and young people through challenging situations.
✅ Responding to high-risk behaviours – Building confidence in managing situations where behaviours may present a risk to carers, children or others.
✅ Keeping everyone safe – Understanding your role as a carer, maintaining safety during crisis situations and recognising when additional professional support is needed.
The session will provide an opportunity to learn practical strategies, ask questions and strengthen your confidence in responding to challenging situations.
