FlashDance - A Lighting Workshop for Photographers
Event description
I know the name is a little kitschy, but it does make at least a little bit of sense. In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics, (and physics) of off camera flash and studio lighting, popular lighting styles and patterns, as well as discuss how these principles can be implemented on-location or in the studio with ease. Many photographers dance around the idea of bringing flash or constant studio lights into their creative work. Some say it’s intimidating, while others just don’t know where to start—This is where to start.
Semi-professional human, and pro-hobbyist photographer, Russ Watkins (@rwphotographics) will demonstrate the basic principles of OCF lighting, how shaping the light can dramatically impact the results, as well as demonstrate common patterns we see in portrait photography.
Photography is just as much about what you feel as what you see.
In this portion of the class, led by EvaMaria Foltz (@foltzfineartportraits) we’ll explore how to guide your creative choices to capture portraits that are emotional, meaningful, and important. We’ll discuss how to use color, posing, light, and emotion as storytelling tools. You’ll walk away with the confidence to trust your creative instinct and create beautiful fine art portraits.
After the presentations, we’ll split into 2 groups for some hands-on experience, giving you the unique opportunity to photograph with 2 different models, on 2 different sets, in different lighting conditions—each guided by one of the instructors. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions while in a live shoot environment, and capture stunning images to add to your portfolio of work. Studio strobes and triggers will be provided.
